Arrived at Cadwell on Friday night after a long journey in traffic, set up , along with Paul & Helen and their new motorhome support vehicle for us . Saturdays race day is dedicated to a fellow racer “ Dave Holland” who was a bit a comical character by all accounts . The weather was dry but overcast and quite windy, with a new front tyre fitted I thought of running it in for the first 2 laps of practice then get on some kind of pace and see where we end up.( superstock600,formula600 & pre injection600 racing together) PRACTICE: 2 laps in and we are off – I was feeling relaxed a few different lines entering “PARK” , I was trying as hard as I could to see what sort of position I could get on the grid ( closer to the front the better) I passed a novice round the outside entering “ THE GOOSENECK” leaving him enough room not to panic him . On the run upto “THE CHICANE” I tried braking even later than before and ended up going passed the chicane sideways ( leaving a big darky) so I had to run between the hay bales – not a problem I knew not to brake there on my next lap. QUALIFIED 12th with 1:40.84 ( 6th in my class F600) The weather had lightly rained ,then stopped, then started to rain again, then the races were called as “ WET RACE” , so after changing my wheels about 3 times and throwing my tools about -in frustration of not being able to get my rear wheel in place , I ended up with wets on and the road infront of me was now dry and no time to change the tyres as It was my time to race, so I head off to the grid and luckily quite a few others were still on wets. RACE 1: I lined up on the outside of the grid on row 4, I could see JULES CROFT on row 2 with an intermediate rear .We set off and do a warm up lap there was only two places I could see that was wet and that was “ THE OLD HAIRPIN” to “ BARN” and exiting “BARN” onto the straight. The lights go out and were off , I get a great start passing Jules into “COPPICE” at that point I was 4th I thought if I can hold this position I will be more than happy, I was expecting Jules to come flying passed ( I didn’t realise he had lost the front turning into “BARN ” ) I just had my head down and chased hard, losing the rear on the gas between “THE OLD HAIRPIN” and “BARN” but luckily it snapped back and I just got on with it, the guy I was chasing made enough ground at that point to keep a good gap for the last lap .FINISHED 5th with 1:45:70 ( 2nd in my class) RACE 2: Dry race 12th on the grid again , the lights go out and its like every bike on the grid has got nitrous, I thought what the hell is going on. By the first corner “COPPICE” I had no idea what position I was in, I just knew I had to make up places as quick as possible, I ended up chasing the 2 guys infront for most of the race as they were making it difficult to pass, I was faster than them into “COPPICE” and in other places I could make ground but had to slow so I didn’t run in the back of them. The last lap flag came out and I knew it was now or never, I lined the first guy up and as soon as he peeled in for “COPPICE” I peeled in on the outside of him ( 6th gear ) as soon as I was next to him I cracked the throttle open and slingshot passed him and the next guy into “CHARLIES 1” in the space of about 50 metres then pulled a gap for the rest of the final lap to the line. FINISHED 12th with 1:39:89 ( 5th in my class) That night there was a trophy announcement and I took 3rd place trophy on aggregate for the 2 races , great result. Fireworks were put on , live band, food and mechanical bull were all put on for the “ FESTIVAL OF DAVE HOLLAND “ SUNDAY - DRY QUALIFIED 6th with 1:39:97 ( 2nd in my class ) RACE1: Got a great start but by “PARK” I got overtook on the brakes by 2 riders – bugger, I will have to try braking harder and later there. Now 6th , the guy infront was the guy who had been chasing me in race 2 on saturday there was no way I wanted him to beat me.I chased him all the way but just couldn’t make a move stick. FINISHED 8th with 1:39:10 ( 4th in my class) RACE 2: This is it last race of the day and I am gonna make it mine. On the grid in 6th the lights went out and I was on it like a bat out of hell. I was in 2nd place going into “COPPICE” ,” CHARLIES 1 & 2” onto “PARK STRAIGHT” then coming upto “ PARK CORNER” I got dusted on the brakes again – not happy – must remember to not stay on the left as wide and sit more mid track , drop a tooth or two on the rear next time as I am revving out way too soon now. Got great drive around “ CHRIS CURVE” & into “THE GOOSENECK” , I tried braking later heading down to “MANSFIELD” but got myself right out of shape and another one passed me up the inside – arggggg it all going wrong. Settled myself and chased hard not being able to pass the guy infront but did manage to drag him to the line finishing .3 of a second behind him. FINISHED 6th with 1:38.91 ( 3rd in my class ) ENDED THE WEEKEND WITH ANOTHER 3RD PLACE TROPHY – HAPPY DAYS.TWO TROPHIES IN ONE WEEKEND CANT STOP SMILING. Thanks to: The wife Kaz & kids Courtney , Lewis for their help & support. Paul & Helen, David for their help and support , feeding us all and keeping us warm in their new motorhome. My cousin Richard for riding all the way to Cadwell on the A roads on his YZF125 & his support. My friend Paul Goodwin for coming all the way from Blackpool to show his support – great guy and ladies he’s single.
